Retirement...

I want someplace that snows in the winter so that everything glistens under the quiet of a clear sky and a full moon, where there is an eruption of green and colorful flowers in the spring, has sunny, hot, lazy days of summer, and bursts into a kaleidoscope of orange, red, and yellow as the leaves change in the fall and I can smell the burning wood as fireplaces are lit to put off the crisp, chilly nights of the fall. I want to be able to see the stars and the Milky Way on a clear, moonless night.

I want a small town feel that is not more than an hour away from the city (I don’t mind the drive, it’s meditative for me). I want to be able to drive to the ocean in a few hours so that I may listen to the waves breaking.

I want to live in a forest so that I may walk through trees and rocks and fields in the morning and in the evening. I want streams and lakes nearby for fishing and swimming and for just sitting and thinking.

I want a small, comfortable house in which my wife and I can grow old together, but that has enough room for when my children all visit. I want a music room for my wife and a shop for my hobbies – electronics, robotics, and woodworking. I want a yard that has room for a garden in which to grow herbs, vegetables, and flowers. I want fruit trees and a fire pit and no fences or walls.

I want to keep busy by taking care of my house and the garden and do something that is worthwhile and interesting and helpful to others.
